Indonesia is home to one of the world’s most beautiful islands, Bali, with breathtaking views saturated in the little island. Within Bali, stray dogs seem to be quite prevalent with street dogs being a common occurrence.

Government measures have been initiated to control this issue with a systematic attempt to prevent other issues like rabies outbreaks. Locals to the Bali have been taking their own initiatives to help manage this issue, by providing their own form of love and support for their canine friends.

Bali inhabitants are predominately practicing Hinduism, and have the lessons of one important king, Yudhishthira, to their initiative. Yudhishthira brought his dog with him to heaven, and this belief is an important teaching for the inhabitants of Bali. The lesson, caring and adopting dogs can lead to the road to heaven.

Rico Soegiarto, 26, provides a perfect example of how his compassion led to the care and provision of a malnourished, street living husky. Upon Rico’s first encounter with the husky pup, there were several signs of distress such as bald spots, emaciation, and dermatological issues.

Rico had observed that the husky did not look healthy enough to carry on much longer. The pup’s condition, in conjunction with her evident neglect, catalyzed Rico to action. Rico told Bored Panda, “I don’t know what was special about her. It’s about heart and feeling. I founder her when I was on the way back home from work, she was in the middle of the street.”

Rico’s good faith proved exactly what the husky needed, as she recovered with a frequent grooming, pet visits and proper nutrition. Most amazing, the husky is fully recovered with a healthy coat that contrasts beautifully with her blue, hypnotic eyes. Rico and the husky are now inseparable best friends with Rico stating, “She loves getting petted and eats plenty of cookies!”

And she is so sociable that she worries me sometimes. There are many thieves in Bali. Rico rests assured that under his supervision, and the 4 other dogs he has, that the newest husky of the family will be safe. The last thing she needed was a name, which Rico proudly announced is Hope.
